Ramanath Bhattacharya Foundation was formed in 2010 in Mumbai with an aim to appreciate and spread awareness of the literary works of the eastern part of India particularly Bengal and the seven sister states of the NE region. Among various activities, the Foundation has initiated two awards given annually to eminent Bengali and Assamese literary genius in recognition to their remarkable contribution to the field of literature in respective languages. The awards are given in the memory famous historian of Assam in undivided India Pandit Padmanath Vidyabinod and globe trotter Ramnath Biswas, both illustrious ancestors of Foundation's trustee president Ramanath Bhattacharya who himself is an established poet.
ভারতের পূর্বাঞ্চল, বিশেষত পশ্চিমবঙ্গ এবং উত্তর-পূর্বাঞ্চলের সাতটি রাজ্যের সাহিত্যকর্মের মর্মোপলব্ধি ও সে-বিষয়ে সচেতনতা বৃদ্ধির উদ্দেশ্যে মুম্বাইয়ে রমানাথ ভট্টাচার্য ফাউন্ডেশন গঠিত হয় ২০১০ সালে। ফাউন্ডেশনের বিভিন্ন ধরনের কাজকর্মের মধ্যে দুটি পুরস্কারের কথা বিশেষভাবে উল্লেখযোগ্য -- প্রতিবছর অসমিয়া ও বাংলা কবিতার ক্ষেত্রে সংশ্লিষ্ট ভাষার দুজন বিশিষ্ট কবিকে তাঁদের জীবনব্যাপী সাহিত্যকৃতির জন্য পুরস্কার প্রদান। পুরস্কার দুটি দেওয়া হয় অবিভক্ত অসমের বিখ্যাত ইতিহাসবিদ পণ্ডিত পদ্মনাথ বিদ্যাবিনোদ আর ভূপর্যটক রামনাথ বিশ্বাসের স্মৃতিতে। উভয়েই ফাউন্ডেশনের ট্রাস্টি-সভাপতি রমানাথ ভট্টাচার্যের পূর্বপুরুষ, যিনি নিজেও একজন প্রতিষ্ঠিত কবি।
